Virginia Elevation Overview
Virginia’s terrain spans five physiographic provinces from west to east: the Blue Ridge Mountains (Mount Rogers, 5,729 ft), the Valley and Ridge province (Shenandoah Valley), the Piedmont Plateau, the Fall Zone, and the Atlantic Coastal Plain including the Virginia Peninsula, Hampton Roads, and Eastern Shore. The Chesapeake Bay is the world’s largest estuary.
