UT Austin Campus Map: Interactive Guide to Buildings, Dining, Libraries & Services

The University of Texas at Austin spreads across one of the largest public university campuses in the United States. This interactive map draws live data directly from UT’s official ArcGIS services and covers every officially mapped location on campus — 598 buildings, 10 libraries, 58 food and dining options, 55 health and wellness resources, 116 emergency phone stations, 44 landmarks and public art installations, and much more.

Use the Layers button on the map to switch categories on and off. Click any point or building for details, including address, phone number, and links to the official UT page. Data is fetched directly from UT’s ArcGIS FeatureServer on each page load, so you’re always seeing current information.

Campus Buildings

UT Austin’s campus encompasses 598 buildings in total — ranging from century-old limestone structures to modern research towers, athletic facilities, and student residences. Of these, 215 buildings carry historic designation, preserving the architectural heritage of one of the nation’s flagship state universities. The Main Building and its iconic clock tower remain the most recognisable symbols of the campus, joined by dozens of distinguished structures across the grounds.

Sustainability is increasingly central to campus construction: 26 buildings have earned LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, recognising high standards in energy efficiency, water conservation, and indoor environmental quality. The campus sits within Travis County, which carries one of the highest riverine flood-risk profiles in the state — our Texas flood zones map shows FEMA hazard areas across Texas in detail. Beyond the main Austin campus, UT also operates 55 affiliated research buildings in Port Aransas, Texas, where the Fisheries and Mariculture Laboratory supports coastal and marine science research.

Dining & Food on Campus

UT Austin operates 3 residential dining halls as the anchor of its on-campus food programme: J2 Dining (201 E 21st St), which houses a top-9 allergen-free line; Jester City Limits, whose menu is created by UT’s culinary team in the heart of Jester Center; and Kin’s Dining (2605 Whitis Ave), which offers a mix of food lines alongside indoor and outdoor patio seating.

Beyond the dining halls, the campus supports 30 restaurants, 12 coffee shops, and 9 food truck locations spread across the grounds, with regular vendors including 512 Brew Bus, Four Brothers Venezuelan Kitchen, Guatemala Love, La Fonda, and Papua Coffee. A network of 4 convenience stores handles everyday essentials, and a dedicated food pantry provides free groceries for students experiencing food insecurity — an important resource at a campus of this size.

Libraries

UT Austin’s library system spans 10 branches, together forming one of the largest academic library collections in the United States. The Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) serves as the main library and offers student-reservable study rooms. The Benson Latin American Collection (2300 Red River St) houses one of the world’s most significant archives of Latin American primary sources. The Fine Arts Library (2306 Trinity St) is home to the Foundry — a campus makerspace for creative and fabrication projects open to all members of the campus community.

Each branch serves a distinct academic community: the Kuehne Physics Mathematics Astronomy Library (2515 Speedway), McKinney Engineering Library (2501 Speedway), Walter Geology Library (2305 Speedway), Life Science Library, Classics Library, and Alexander Architectural Archives Library each serve specialist collections, with study spaces ranging from quiet individual areas to group conference rooms.

Health & Wellness

UT Austin maintains an unusually comprehensive network of on-campus health and wellness resources. Healthy Horns operates 7 locations across campus for general wellness and preventative care. Two on-campus pharmacy locations handle prescription services, and 18 mental health service points — operated through the Counseling and Mental Health Center — give UT one of the highest densities of mental health access of any university in the country. For a wider picture of healthcare facility locations across the US, Mapscaping’s interactive US hospitals map covers all 7,596 hospitals nationwide.

Perhaps the most notable figure: UT Austin has installed Narcan (naloxone) pick-up stations at 28 locations across campus. Naloxone reverses opioid overdoses and can save a life within minutes of administration. UT’s campus-wide distribution network — one of the largest at any university in the United States — reflects a serious, proactive approach to student safety that goes beyond what most institutions provide.

Campus Safety

UT Austin’s safety infrastructure is among the most extensive of any university campus in the country. 116 emergency phone stations are distributed across the grounds, each providing immediate direct connection to the UT Police Department at the press of a button. UTPD maintains 2 campus police locations and patrols 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Sure Walk programme adds a personal safety layer for students travelling after dark. Operating from 5 designated request stops around campus, Sure Walk provides free, volunteer-escorted walks for any student who feels unsafe making a journey alone at night — one of several peer-led safety initiatives that complement the formal UTPD presence.

Recreation, Landmarks & Culture

The UT Austin campus functions as an open-air cultural destination. The campus’s 5 museums include the Blanton Museum of Art, Briscoe Center for American History, Harry Ransom Center, Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, and the Texas Science and Natural History Museum. 44 landmarks and public art installations are spread across the grounds — sculptures, murals, historical monuments, and architectural details that reward closer attention. Performing arts venues include Anna Hiss Gymnasium, Bass Concert Hall, Bates Recital Hall, B. Iden Payne Theatre, and 13 further spaces.

For physical wellbeing, 8 recreation facilities serve the campus community, from the historic Gregory Gymnasium to newer fitness and aquatic centres. The 2 student union buildings serve as the campus’s living rooms — spaces for student organisations, events, dining, and day-to-day community life that sit at the heart of UT culture.

Campus Services

Everyday practicalities are well-handled on the UT Austin campus. 24 ATM machines are distributed throughout campus buildings, covering virtually every part of the grounds. On-campus banking is available, and 2 Amazon locker stations provide a secure pickup point for students who shop online — avoiding the missed-delivery problem that plagues off-campus addresses. A hotel operates in close proximity to the main campus for visiting families, conference attendees, and event guests.

Transportation & Parking

UT Austin is one of the most cycle-friendly university campuses in Texas. 185 bicycle parking locations are spread throughout the grounds, and 10 Bikeshare stations give students and staff access to rental bikes without needing to own one. 7 on-campus bicycle repair stations and 2 supply points help riders keep their bikes in working order. Austin’s broader cycling network — dedicated lanes, trails, and shared paths across the city — is covered in detail on our Texas cycling map.

For those arriving by car, 12 parking garages serve the campus, complemented by 76 ADA-accessible parking spaces that ensure accessibility across all parts of the campus. 49 bus shelter stops connect the campus to Austin’s MetroBus and CapMetro network, integrating the university into the city’s wider transit system and offering a practical alternative to driving for students who live off-campus.
