New Mexico Elevation Overview
New Mexico has the second-highest mean elevation of any US state. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the north include Wheeler Peak at 13,161 ft. The Rio Grande Rift creates dramatic valley-and-range topography through the center. The Chihuahuan Desert basin and range fills the south. Even the lowest point is 2,842 ft above sea level.
