Job Information

This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

In order to protect our employees and continue to provide safe and reliable service to our communities, as of November 14, 2021, we are requiring all new MTA hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start date. MTA will consider exceptions for religious and medical reasons, where appropriate. Fully vaccinated means you must have both doses of a 2-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the second dose or have received (1) dose of a 1-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the dose. Proof of your vaccination status in the form of a CDC vaccine card must be submitted prior to your start date.

Summary

Surveying Technician, under limited supervision, performs surveying services work in the field or office and may receive training in surveying work of advanced difficulty and responsibility.

Responsibilities

Performs work in one or more of the following areas: Equipment calibration, the gathering of field data, survey computations, real estate, historical data research, project development, drafting, specifications, and estimating, including associated reports and correspondence.

Education and Experience

Associate degree in Land Surveying, Land Surveying Technology, Surveying and Mapping, Geomatics, Surveying Engineering Technology, Geospatial Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Surveying Engineering, Land Surveying and Mapping, Geographic Information Science and Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Must have a minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience with various types of surveys, survey equipment and field data collection.
Knowledge of the capital design and construction process is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including field note-taking.
Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, etc.).
Knowledge of MicroStation/AutoCAD Civil 3D software preferred.
Sound interpersonal skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry survey equipment and supplies in the operating environment, elevated structures, and in remote or urban settings.
Ability to be mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments in all types of weather.

Other Information

As an MTA Construction & Development employee, you may be required to complete the New York State financial disclosure statement annually if your position earns $105,472 (this figure is subject to change) per year if the position is designated as a policymaker.
