As a Staff Software Engineer on the Carrier Initiatives team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a real-time vehicle routing and dispatch system, as well as building the backend for our mobile app that powers our carrier network across dozens of cities. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, and data scientists to build scalable and reliable systems that meet the demands of our growing carrier network.

Your work here will help optimize thousands of shipments into efficient routes, maximize profits and carrier earnings, and most-importantly deliver freight on-time, 100% of the time. You will contribute to generating new work opportunities for independent carriers across the country, driving a new generation of owner-operators.

What You’ll Do

Participate in the entire software development life cycle, including planning, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps and long-term strategies for routing and dispatch services
Create data pools and streams that can be consumed by our real-time apps and services
Design systems with data-driven solutions for route optimization at scale, allowing us to unlock major efficiencies by pooling shipments together to provide fast and on-time deliveries for our customers
Design dispatch strategies that route and allocate shipments to the optimal carrier by leveraging real-time vehicle locations, volume capacities, time constraints, and more
Identify and solve strategically important problems and improve inefficiencies in our delivery process
Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
Significant experience architecting and building scalable, event-driven, real-time geospatial systems with critical business logic
Ability to communicate and present complex information to both technical and non-technical coworkers with ease
Excellent communication and willingness to take risks and push boundaries is a must
Familiarity with applied machine learning models and concepts

Compensation Philosophy

At Mothership, we believe it’s vital to offer a range of compensation packages, so you have the power to make the appropriate financial decision for yourself and your family. Upon offer, you will receive a breakdown of 3 different cash vs. equity packages to choose from, with additional information on estimated equity valuation.

We offer equity options in ISO that vest over four years with a one-year cliff. The % and value will be discussed later in the interview process.
