Position Description ERT is seeking a Scientific Software Test Engineer to perform scientific software analysis and testing as well as associated documentation. The work activities range from understanding the requirements from the forecasters, developing manual and automated test scenarios, executing tests, and reporting on test results. The software testing engineer will participate in both ticket testing and full integrated system testing. Specific duties include:
Executing smoke, integration, regression, performance, and end user tests
Integrating, testing, and supporting software developed by other centers or development partners.
Analyzing user stories and use case requirements for validity and feasibility.
Applying quality assurance practices throughout the software development cycle.
Collaborating with other team members and departments.
Detecting and tracking software defects and inconsistencias using JIRA.
Creating, editing, and maintaining test documentation on Confluence.
Optimizing application code for high performance on UNIX-type workstations as well as LINUX servers and to ensure efficient use of computing resources in general.
Lead modernization efforts for existing applications.
Lead efforts to consolidate and unify data dissemination to application users.
Required Skills 3+ years of software analysis and testing experience. Must have experience with automation testing tools (Selenium, Browser Stack, etc) and an understanding of observational data visualization and/or meteorological forecasting tools. Must also have:
Experience working with scientific data sets OR large, complex datasets (NetCDF, HDF5, or GRIB experience preferred)
Experience working with visual representations of data, preferably in a geospatial environment
Experience with change management and version control systems, such as Git and Redmine.
Experience working on a LINUX workstation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively communicate technical information and work status accurately and reliably to project leads and managers.
Desired
Familiar with AGILE development methodology.
Ability to write and edit shell scripts.
Experience working with JIRA and Confluence.
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education BS in computer science, related discipline, or equivalent.
