Please note: this position will be a combination of remote and on-site (days per week). The on-site work can be done in Fremont if preferred, as well as San Francisco.

Under limited direction of investigators, carries out a variety of complex epidemiologic analyses of cancer registry and other cancer control data using SAS, R and other statistical software, including the NCI SEER*Stat suite of analysis programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Participates in the design of analyses and tabulation and presentation of data.
Conducts descriptive statistical analyses to characterize and understand data structures.
Documents all analyses including programs, output and summary tables.
Identifies and implements appropriate multivariable modeling strategies.
Compares different multivariable modeling approaches for given analyses.
Prepares data for sharing with study team, and summarizes salient results.
Prepares tables, figures, and graphs for manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations.

Department Description

UCSF’s Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and Masters degrees in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, or related field and 3-5 years of work experience in a related field.
Thorough knowledge of research function
Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming
Thorough skills in analysis and consultation
Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing
Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations
Experience with SAS or R.
Able to work independently as well as part of a team
Strong self-management skills. Able to work in an environment with frequent shifts in priority; multiple, overlapping complex tasks; and meet deadlines and deliverables with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Academic or work experience in cancer epidemiology or population health science research
Experience with analysis of cancer surveillance data
Experience with analysis of neighborhood contextual, geospatial, and/or multilevel data
Experience with writing manuscripts for publication in health/medical journals
