Job Purpose
Toro is looking for an intellectually curious problem solver to join our team as a data scientist and engineer. This position will support our continuing mission to improve sustainability through data-driven approaches to managing landscapes. Working in Toros Center for Technology, Research, and Innovation (CTRI) alongside a team of engineers and scientists, your primary focus will be on data modeling and management. You will apply modern data science approaches to creating informative and predictive data systems in a Research & Development context. Successful projects will conceptualize and demonstrate data-driven management tools and approaches that improve agronomic, economic, and sustainability outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities
Create, maintain, and analyze datasets for R&D projects including data from prototype sensor and measurement platforms and from other sources as required for research projects
Model and analyze datasets to test research hypotheses using modern data science and engineering tools
Deliver insights, reports, and impactful visualizations from complex datasets
Assist with field operations to gather data and deploy sensing and data collection systems
Consult with researchers, engineers, and marketing staff to understand how customer needs and business goals translate into data requirements
Engage with internal and external customers in support of other research and development activities, as assigned
Be an integral part of a team dedicated to driving sustainability through data

Job Qualifications:
Research Data Analyst I: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or GIS is required. Additional formal research experience is desirable.
Research Data Analyst II: Bachelor’s plus 2 years’ experience, or master’s in engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or GIS is required.
Research Data Analyst III: Bachelor’s plus 5 years’ experience, or master’s plus 3 years’ experience, or Ph.D. in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or GIS is required.
Other Context: Must be able to execute research projects and analyze associated data. Able to deliver analytics, derive insights, create reports, and produce impactful visualizations from complex datasets. Demonstrates a high level of productivity. Proven competency in the execution and support of research projects and data analyses.
Curiosity and eagerness to learn about customer applications for data and information that motivate technology development. Familiarity with landscape-scale maintenance practices and sustainability issues will be beneficial
Strong skills with programming and scripting languages used for manipulating, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets and associated data products (e.g. Python, R, SQL, etc.)
Experience with geospatial software packages or libraries such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GDAL, Arcpy, etc., preferred.
Must be detail oriented and have excellent communication skills.

Competitive Salary The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
