General Description of the Position

THIS POSITION IS 100% GRANT FUNDED
Delaware State University (DSU) is seeking applicants for a research associate position in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing, with an emphasis on GIS use in natural resources. The research associate (working with Dr. Sigrid Smith in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources and outside collaborators) will contribute to a USDA-funded project on spatial planning for sustainable agriculture. This is a 100% grant funded position budgeted through May 2023.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Perform and document GIS analyses and contribute to other research efforts for the project. 2. Design and lead GIS and remote sensing course modules and training workshops. 3. Help to develop GIS metadata for research products. 4. Help to develop manuscripts from both research and teaching activities for publication in science and science education journals. 5. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities:
1. Extensive knowledge and interest in GIS and their applications in natural resources. 2. Interest and/or experience in developing curricula and delivering high-quality university courses and training workshops. 3. Ability to communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, collaborators, and representatives of local governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Qualification Standards

1. Education: Ph.D. in a natural resource-related science with extensive experience in GIS and/or remote sensing, or Ph.D. in geospatial science with extensive experience in natural resources applications. 2. An active record of publication in science and/or science education journals. 3. Authorization to work in the United States.
