Job Description

Geophysical data collection, conditioning, processing, and interpretation. LINUX and WINDOWS systems management of geosystems analysis network. Survey equipment maintenance and repair. Assist in the planning and execution of geophysical field surveys, both domestic and international. Provide student assistance/support as needed.

Qualifications

B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in geoscience or other physical science discipline and 3 years of relevant experience OR a combination of education and experience.

Job Specific Qualifications

Familiarity with marine acoustic methods such as reflection seismology and multibeam echo sounding. Knowledge of operations on research ships as well ability to operate small research vessels. Knowledge of WINDOWS and LINUX operating systems. Experience processing and manipulating digital seismic reflection data a plus. Ability to lead small groups in challenging outdoor environments, including internationally, on large lakes and oceans.

Responsibilities

Systems manager for the geophysical computer network supporting subsurface and geospatial data analysis.
Maintains research computers; processing, and archiving geophysical data including multibeam bathymetric and reflection seismic data sets.
Maintains and repairs geophysical survey equipment/ sediment sampling gear. Equipment includes seismic source and receiver instrumentation; navigational systems; miscellaneous sampling equipment.
Conducts geophysical surveys and sediment sampling on lakes and oceans. Operate small research vessels in remote environments.
Other duties as assigned.
