JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Join the Geospatial Analysis and Workflows (GAW) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University! We are looking for Engineers, Scientists, and Software Developers and who are adaptable and inherently curious. You will help lead our research efforts that have applications in defense, law enforcement, security, disaster relief, human geography, disaster preparedness, and first response.
You will:
Lead programs and teams, and be part of a highly collaborative leadership team
Lead collaborations with geospatial imagery analysts to understand and automate workflows and improve human processes to advance the discovery and modeling of associations, trends, patterns and system dynamics
Lead the creation of processes and algorithms to transform traditional GEOINT imagery and open source data into spatio-temporal information to better represent the most advanced understanding of world events, systems, and discrete entities
Design and integrate automated geospatial workflows into existing systems with rigorous testing and documentation
Grow your career and capabilities, plan and conduct applied research, provide technical guidance and oversight, lead large research efforts, report results, foster trusted relationships with sponsors, and advise on new and evolving technology and techniques
Minimally requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline plus 19 years related experience. A Masters degree or PhD is preferred .

Significant experience as a Principal Investigator on DoD/IC research programs, and demonstrated leadership capabilities, preferably on multiple programs
Participates in most sponsor-facing capabilities briefings
Authoring numerous whitepapers and coordinating multiple whitepaper contributions
Relevant experience in a field directly applicable or highly related to Geospatial Sciences, Engineering, or Computer Sciences
Adapt and learn new skills, to execute specific research projects, and to meet task deadlines and goals
Key technical leadership role on a program, understands all technical aspects of the program, creates tasking for other team members, and coordinates technical development activities.
Very active and committed to mentorship/training other team members, continuity planning, Division resource allocation and task planning, Division financial program execution
Experience with computer programming in one or more of the following: Python, R, Java, C++, or Matlab
Preferred:
Experience working within DoD/IC Analysis or Operational environments is highly regarded
Experience with Git, GUI development, open source scientific computation, GIS, computer vision, physics modeling, or machine learning tools is highly regarded

This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.
Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. U.S. citizenship is required for the applicant.
