JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are searching for a leader in GEOINT to join our Image Science and Computer Vision Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. You will guide our research efforts in a unique problem area that has applications in defense, law enforcement, security, disaster relief, human geography, disaster preparedness, and first response. Our highly collaborative team is comprised of adaptable, curious, creative, lateral thinkers who are in both traditional and non-traditional backgrounds and multidisciplinary points-of-view.

You will:

Lead and coordinate collaborations with geospatial imagery analysts to understand and automate workflows and improve human processes to advance the discovery and modeling of associations, trends, patterns and system dynamics
Devise, plan, and direct the creation of processes and algorithms to transform traditional GEOINT imagery and open source data into spatio-temporal information describing places, events, and activities
Model the physics of remote sensing systems to associate real world objects to known signatures and doctrines
Recognize and develop opportunities to discover and capture information from geospatial imagery which better represents the most advanced understanding of world events, systems, and discrete entities
Apply the scientific method across multiple disciplines to advance Image Science and Computer Vision and develop automated analytics through systematic experimentation
Lead scientific research projects and develop geospatial algorithms while collaborating among diverse domains to further scientific understanding and analytic tools
Grow capabilities, provide technical guidance and oversight, foster trusted relationships with sponsors, mentor team, and advise on new and evolving technology and techniques
Devise, plan, and lead experiment-driven applied research efforts ranging from proof-of-concept through integrated production systems

Typically requires a Bachelors in an Engineering or Science discipline; Masters Degree or Ph.D. preferred plus 19+ years related experience.

Required skills/experience areas include:

Previous successful experience leading and guiding/mentoring collaborative teams
Previous successful and significant experience as a Principal Investigator on DoD/IC research programs
Relevant experience in a field directly applicable or highly related to Image Science, Remote Sensing, Engineering, Computer Sciences, or Geospatial Sciences
Past success in designing image algorithms, performing analysis, and designing or applying meaningful metrics to measure results
Computer programming in one or more of the following: Python; R; Java; C++; and/or Matlab.

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

Git, GUI development, open source scientific computation, computer vision, physics modeling, or machine learning tools
DoD/IC Analysis or Operational environments, performing DoD/IC research and development
An active government security clearance

Your working location can be a hybrid of on-site/work from home, located in State College, PA.
