Position Highlights
The research lab of Professor Laura Condon in the department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work on national groundwater modeling on several projects funded by NSF and USGS. Our group develops and maintains a high-resolution integrated groundwater surface water model of the US as well as community infrastructure to expand model capabilities, build tools to provide access to the model and develop machine learning emulators.
We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral scholar who is interested in studying groundwater surface water interactions across the US and national water sustainability. This position will also involve platform and model development to improve hydrologic process representation and prediction. Successful applicants will be joining a diverse interdisciplinary team with close collaborations between hydrologists, data scientists and software engineers working across multiple public and private institutions. Duties & Responsibilities
Job Duties to include:
Conducting national research on groundwater surface water interactions and sustainability across the US.
Collaborating with the PI and project leadership on research ideas and direction
Participating in research meetings and helping contribute to and lead group discussions
Developing reproducible and sharable analysis using best software practices
Collaborating with students in the research group on methods and research ideas
Publishing results in peer reviewed journals and presenting at relevant conferences
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in hydrology, environmental engineering, geosciences, applied math, computer science or other related fields
Demonstrate a record of strong written and verbal communication.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with physically based hydrologic modeling is strongly recommended.
Experience analyzing large datasets and creating visualizations is required.
Applicants should have coding experience in Python and additional experience in Fortran or C is also desirable.
Applicants should be comfortable working in GitHub and a preference will be given for applicants who also have experience with high performance computing.
The postdoc will be a part of a large and highly collaborative team. Additional background in remote sensing, machine learning, geospatial data or high-performance computing will be beneficial but is not required.
