POSITION DESCRIPTION
Maurer-Stutz, Inc. is looking for a multi-skilled candidate with a quantitative background for the position of GIS Specialist. Our GIS Staff are responsible for developing maps, data, and other in-house deliverables, maintaining our vast collection of local and cloud-based
datasets, and using their creative abilities to deliver interesting and functional web applications for our designers and clients.
The GIS Specialist will need to explain geographic trends and findings from their analyses to both our designers and clients, requiring excellent written and verbal communication. The ideal candidate should have a passion for geospatial technology as it relates to the
future of the civil and municipal engineering profession.
In addition to the base proficiencies, the preferred candidate will have a bend towards client relations and teaching. Our goal at Maurer- Stutz is to enable our clients to utilize their GIS datasets in meaningful and impactful ways. This means that the GIS Specialist will work
closely with various municipal employees to help develop their own GIS workflows and provide expert support as needed. This is not expected of the candidate immediately but should be a goal of the GIS Specialist during their career at Maurer-Stutz.

Web-based interactive Photograph Log for Phase I Roadway Reconstruction

Geo-enabled Web Surveys for municipal water customers

Ongoing maintenance of various Utility Atlases for local municipalities

Corridor Tree Survey utilizing ArcGIS Collector and Trimble survey equipment
Complex urban storm drainage basin analysis using open-source GIS toolsets

GIS SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analyzing spatial data using mapping software (primarily ESRI products).

Discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data.

Designing digital maps with geographic data and other data sources.

Producing cartographically pleasing maps with various data types (utilities, roadway improvements, drainage areas, contours,
cadastral linework, etc.).

Developing web mapping applications and tools using ESRI products (non-coding).

Converting physical maps into a digital form for computer usage.

Performing data munging and cleaning to convert data into its desired form.
Produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations.

Managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.

BASE REQUIREMENTS:

Associates Degree and/or Certification in Geospatial Technology, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or related field.

Experience with desktop mapping tools such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap.

Experience with cloud-based mapping tools such as ArcGIS Online and Field Maps/Collector.

Experience with GPS and/or measuring tools.
Experience with SQL and database querying.

Strong understanding of engineering-related geospatial concepts (coordinate systems, map projections, Mapping vs. Survey
grade accuracy)

Analytical mindset

Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication.

Good interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or related field with an emphasis in Geospatial Technologies.
Experience with Municipal, Water/Wastewater and/or Transportation Engineering Industry Familiarity with other engineering CAD software (Bentley and/or Autodesk Products)
Basic Python and/or ArcPy programming experience Familiarity with Open-Source GIS Tools (i.e. QGIS, OpenLayers, Geoserver)
