Stantecs digital and technology teams have over 200 staff dispersed geographically and functionally across the company. These teams have grown organically in recent years, achieving great success in supporting our digital transformation. In response to our continued growth, we are looking for a Chief Technology Officer who wants to be part of a purpose-driven organization focused on helping our clients, colleagues and communities thrive. Reporting into Stantecs Chief Growth and Innovation Officer (CGIO), this newly established position will provide direct leadership to our digital and technology teams and will play an integral role in continuing to add technology value to clients and communities, while driving delivery effectiveness and shareholder value.
People are Stantecs most valuable resource, and in joining our team you will be able to leverage your experience in the commercialization and monetization of digital products, tools, and emerging technology to lead Stantecs digital evolution geographically and organizationally, in a way that meaningfully grows Stantecs gross revenue.
Your Responsibilities
The Chief Technology Officer will lead identification, deployment, application, and support of emerging technology to support existing clients and our strategic growth initiatives and will provide the following leadership in accordance with Stantecs 2024-2026 Strategic Plan to two groups:

Our Externally facing team focused on developing and delivering digital products and services for commercialization, and
Our Internally facing team that provide digital and emerging technology support to our core businesses (that is, to win and execute our traditional work) and to develop tools for internal use to drive efficiency and to create monetizable value.

Across both groups, the Chief Technology Officer will undertake activities that:

Work closely with the key stakeholders Stantecs five Business Operating Units (BOUs), our Innovation Office and our sales channel partners, to support the commercialization of digital products and services and new technologies for Stantecs go-to-mass-market strategies
Work collaboratively with Stantecs digital practice groups across Stantecs BOUs, Global Operations and our Innovation Office, to maintain capabilities across our digital practice areas which include data analytics, design/delivery and automation, geospatial analytics, project and program information management systems, visualization, and digital development
Minimize risk to Stantecs digital brand, create and adopt common product development principles, processes, tools, platforms, and governance by providing a consistent approach to integrating commercial digital products into each of Stantecs BOUs and Business Lines
Develop a roadmap for achieving material revenue and EBITDA growth from Stantecs commercially offered emergent technology and digital products and services
Create dedicated technical, development, and support teams that are scalable and lead those teams towards the success of the products that will be brought to market
Drive organizational maturity by providing clarity of roles and career pathing for various disciplines
Work closely with Stantec IT partners to achieve greater agility, consistency reliability, scalability, sustainability, and security
Ensure these digital practice areas remain agile and responsible to the need of their clients, while also achieving efficiency of standardization through a central depository of talent and capability
Ensure that the tools and applications architecture support the priorities of the business and that they are used efficiently, profitably, and securely
Research and deploy emergent promising technologies that can help increase the companys competitive advantage and avoid disruptive threats
Assist Stantecs various sectors to use technology effectively to increase margin by lowering overhead costs
Identify strategic partnerships to help enable organizational growth
Set the direction for the programming languages, frameworks and methodologies in use and ensure consistent standards are applied across the entire company
Protect and encourage intellectual property reuse wherever possible, seeking new applications for existing digital and technical solutions that provide competitive advantage
Build networks of people, technologies, and ideas far outside of Stantec, constantly scanning the landscape to identify possible acquisitions or partners that can provide complementary capabilities.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials

Achievement oriented with proven experience in the commercialization and monetization of digital products/tools and emerging technology
Demonstrated understanding of complex organization design and with the ability to manage effectively in a matrix organization
An entrepreneurial orientation, including experience negotiating, building, and maintaining productive relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
Leadership, change management, communication, team building skills, and strategic thinking are essential for the success of this position
Ability to attract and retain talented professionals and build high performing teams

Education and Experience

Minimum Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Science/Systems, Engineering, or a related field, with an MS and/or MBA from an accredited institution preferred.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of related professional experience, with prior experience as a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) or Chief Digital Officer (CDO) preferred
Broad knowledge of current software engineering (languages, frameworks, and techniques) and enterprise-wide IT architecture for commercialization of products
