Driveway Size Calculator – Measure Your Driveway on a Map

Use this free Driveway Size Calculator to measure the exact area and dimensions of your driveway directly on a satellite map. Draw your driveway outline, add multiple sections for complex layouts, and instantly see total area in square feet and square metres, perimeter, bounding dimensions, and a per-section breakdown. Export your shapes as GeoJSON, KML, or GPX for use in other tools.

How to Measure Your Driveway

  1. Search your address – Type your property address in the search bar and the map will zoom to your location.
  2. Draw your driveway – Click the polygon tool (top right of the map) and click around the driveway perimeter. Double-click to close the shape.
  3. Add more sections – Draw additional polygons for a parking pad, turning area, or any separate paved sections. All areas are summed automatically.
  4. Switch units – Toggle between imperial (ft / sq ft) and metric (m / sq m) at any time.
  5. Export – Download your shapes as GeoJSON, KML (Google Earth), or GPX for use in other mapping tools.

What the Calculator Measures

  • Total Area – The combined geodesic area of all drawn sections, shown in both sq ft and sq m.
  • Perimeter – The total edge length around all sections, useful for edging and border materials.
  • Dimensions – The overall width and length of the bounding box covering all sections.
  • Section Breakdown – Individual area, perimeter, and dimensions for each polygon drawn.

Why Use a Map-Based Driveway Calculator?

Measuring a driveway with a tape measure is slow and prone to error, especially for irregular shapes or multi-section layouts. Drawing on satellite imagery lets you trace the real outline of your driveway precisely, accounting for curves, widened sections, and separate parking areas that a simple length-times-width estimate would miss.

Measurements use geodesic math for accuracy regardless of where in the world your property is located.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are the measurements?
Accuracy depends on how closely you trace the driveway edge and the resolution of the underlying satellite imagery. Geodesic calculations are used, so there is no flat-earth distortion error.

Can I measure a curved or irregular driveway?
Yes. The polygon tool lets you click as many points as you need, so you can closely follow curves and odd shapes.

What is the perimeter used for?
Perimeter tells you the total edge length, which is useful for calculating how much edging strip, border material, or concrete edging you need.

What does the Dimensions field show?
It shows the width and length of the bounding box that encloses all your drawn sections – a quick proxy for the overall footprint of your driveway.

Can I draw more than one section?
Yes. Draw as many polygons as you need. Each appears in the Section Breakdown table and all areas are summed in the Total Area figure.

What export formats are available?
GeoJSON (for GIS software and web maps), KML (for Google Earth and similar), and GPX (for GPS devices and route planners). Polygons are exported as closed track segments in GPX.

Does this work on mobile?
Yes. The tool is responsive and works on phones and tablets, though drawing is easier on a larger screen.
